Match Trivia
On Hampden Park, Glasgow estimated attendance 52,000. Drawings (gate and stands) £1487 8s. With the wind in their favour Rangers had much the better of the play in the first half. Their shooting however left much to be desired and the Celtic with fewer chances were decidedly the more dangerous side. Newbigging saved one fine shot from McMenemy, and further on in the game Mitchell had a magnificent thirty yards drive. Adams although the play was in the main round his goal had very few serious shots to handle, the best effort coming from Kyle. Half-time no scoring. The Celtic opened the second half very aggressively, but after Semple had missed a fine opening they fell away greatly, and until nearing the finish were never again dangerous. The Rangers on the other hand, played with great spirit, but showing a conspicuous lack of judgment, Campbell a feebleness in centre undoing all the good work of the wing forwards and half-backs. On more than one occasion the Celtic defence was fortunate in clearing particularly so when Adams recovered just in time to divert a shot from Kyle, which Young had placed almost through the goal. Just at the finish a Celtic dash left their forwards with the most open goal of the game, but McMenemy headed the ball against the bar and eventually disaster was averted. Result – A draw, no scoring. The tie will be replayed on the same ground on Saturday, first half-an-hour extra to be played in the event of another draw
