Match Trivia
This return League fixture between these clubs was replayed at Ibrox Park. A fearful storm of wind and rain prevailed during almost the entire game. The pitch was very soft. The Celts faced the breeze and rain in the first half, but in spite of this they took the game in hand after the first five minutes, during which Adams saved grandly on two successive occasions. So well did the Celts forwards combine and so cleverly dud they outwit the opposing backs, that Sinclair was frequently called upon. He made one great save with his right hand when a goal was expected. Keeping up the attacks, Hamilton forced a corner. He took the kick, and the ball went across the goalmouth to Bennett, who in turn centred and Quinn scored. The Celts did not long retain their lead, for the home right wing and centre controlled the ball so skilfully that Kyle to whom it was latterly passed beat Adams. This finished the scoring up to halftime. Halftime – 1 goal each. With the wind in their favour the visitors quickly became very aggressive, and after Sinclair’s goal had ran many narrow escapes, Quinn scored. From this point to the end of the game the Rangers played like a beaten tem. True they might have equalised shortly after had McColl not been lame. Rushing the home defence most persistently the Celts had the backs beaten over and over again. Hamilton quickly sided two rather easy goals. McColl retired ten minutes from time, and the Rangers afterwards rallied a bi, bit not sufficiently to reduce the lead against them. Result – Celtic 4 goals: Rangers 1 goal.
