Match Trivia
In splendid weather and before fully 25,000 spectators the first of the League gamed between these powerful rivals was brought off at Ibrox Park, the ground was in first-rate order. The Rangers kicked off against the breeze, and Dickie was beaten in less than a minute. Offside was given. The Rangers acted on the defensive for a time. Their forwards gradually got into working order, but Dinsmore who was at outside left mulled many a well-intentioned pass from Henderson. Adams was latterly called upon, but cleared easily. The Celts did not act long on the defensive and only the starling play of Drummond, and in a lesser degree that of Fraser kept them from getting into close quarters. Even when they did get the better of the backs, their shooting was poor, Quinn especially doing badly at close range. Gilligan attempted to score with a header, but Dickie caught the ball and cleared, and on another occasions luckily scraped the ball out of danger. The Celts had the better of this half in the open, and had their bad shooting to thank for their non-success at goal. Halftime – No scoring. On resuming McMenemy ought to have scored in the first minute, but over anxiety caused him to shoot past. It was now the Rangers turn to press, but Adams saved on two occasions brilliantly, in spite of the close attentions of the Rangers forwards. Dinsmore got injured, and had to retire 15 minutes from time after which accidents to Battles and Watson stopped the game for a time. Close on time first Dickie and then Adams effected good saves. Dickie also met with an accident to ere play was resumed. No scoring took place in the second half and the gamed ended in a draw – no scoring.
