Match Trivia
The final tie in the charity competition took place on Hampden Park before a crowd fully 15,000 strong. The game was but a shirt time in progress, when it became manifest fact that the Celts were far below form, partly due to the number of cripples in their ranks. The Rangers with the aid of the breeze played a fine game, and before long Battles netted the ball from a shot by Smith. This misfortune damped the ardour of the Celts somewhat, and Campbell shortly after added another. The Celts tried hard to retrieve their position, Campbell and Storrier working very hard. A few minutes after Campbell had scored for the Rangers, Gibson from about 30 yards out added another goal to the Rangers total. The game stood 3 to 0 in favour of the Ibrox team at halftime. The second had was vigorously contested, Hamilton by a good individual effort scoring the fourth goal. This was followed by a point to the Celts Hodge beating Dickie after the latter had fooled his kick in attempting to clear. Near the end feeling crept into the game, and both teams deliberately played to put their opponents offside, much to the detriment of the quality of the football. A few minutes before time Miller scored, and then the Celts were awarded a penalty. Dickie saving splendidly from the six-yard line. Time was immediately sounded. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Celtic 1 goal. The total drawings amounted to £457 12s 6d. This added to the money already drawn, makes a grand total of £1038.
