Match Trivia
The return match between these teams took place on Ibrox Park; there were fully 25,000 spectators. The ground was very slippery in spite of the straw covering which had been used during the week. Hamilton kicked off, and the Rangers set up a brisk attack, McPherson saving from Smith. The Celts quickly adapting themselves to the treacherous surface outplayed the Rangers, and McMahon scored, Dickie having no chance to save. The home team became somewhat demoralised after this unexpected reverse, and but for Dickie, who saved from Campbell, Somers and Quinn in quick successions, their position would not have been an enviable one. The play which followed was more even, and nearing halftime the Rangers played much better than their opponents, and but for good defence by Watson and McLeod might have equalised. Halftime – Celtic 1 goal: Rangers 0. The resumption witnessed a marked improvement in the Rangers play. Walker unsuccessfully tried McPherson who was beaten quickly after with an effort much above the average by Walker. The same player gave his team the lead with an excellent shot, which followed good work in conjunction with Smith. This was more than the Celtic bargained for, and the pace became faster than ever, although slips were frequent. From a brief scrimmage at goal the visitors equalised, and a few minutes later got the lead with a third goal. The Rangers subsequently merited the equaliser, which was obtained by Neil. No further scoring took place, and a hard fast came ended in a draw – 3 goals each. £550 at the gates, and £233at the stand and enclosures made up a handsome total - £783
