Match Trivia
You didnt expect anything else, did you? Still, although it was a contest only in name and far too one-sided, yet interest was not altogether dissipated. One could not but admire the spirit of determination shown by the Brechin lads. They stuck at it all the time, and even when their elimination was inevitable, they continued to show fight. Their two goals too were cleverly taken. No man, however, came out of the clash with more honour than Orchison. True, he had to go to the back of the net for the ball on eight occasions, but a less alert and agile keeper would have had a pain in his back by the bending he would have had. Repeatedly he got the ball when it seemed impossible to get it. O do not intend to go into the merits and demerits of the other players it would be invidious. Rangers were infinitely superior in every department with perhaps the exception of goal. The avalanche started in the fourth minute when McPhail waited on an Archibald cross and headed the ball home. Bob notched another twelve minutes later with a fierce, low shot after English and Archibald had done the spade-work. Over-confidence on the part of the Ibrox defenders allowed Cargill to sweep the ball over to the unmarked Stuart, who headed in, the ball striking the underpart of the bar and rebounding into the net. Then Fleming sent the ball raging behind Orchison, and shortly before the interval, Jimmy registered another from an acute angle. Two minutes of the second half sufficed to see English notch a fifth and he followed with another ten minutes later. Just to show that they were not done, the Brechin forwards swung play the other way, and Stuart swept the ball past T Hamilton. English and Marshall put two on two more for the League champions.
