Match Trivia

For the first half, and part of the second, the game at Ibrox was more like a Cup-tie than a friendly. During that time the Rangers although playing with a weakened side, were undoubtedly the superior team, and but for the strong defence work by Smith and McCloy the margin would have been greater than the one goal scored by Hansen 15 minutes after the start. Cunningham was the master mind of the Rangers attack. Time after time he cleverly sent his wing men away, but although Hansen and Henderson strove to increase the lead, they could not fine the extra bit of punch to beat down the Ayr defence. It was only on rare occasions that the visitors got going, but their attempts to equalise were poor, only Harry Cunningham sending in a shot which caused Robb any serious trouble. A feature of the game was the vigorous duels between Archibald and McCloy
