Match Trivia
These teams played their return fixture at Ibrox Park in clear frosty weather before fully 8000 spectators. The Rangers started brilliantly and Duncan and the backs were kept constantly repelling the attacks of the home forwards. After about twenty minutes play the visitors broke away, and Thomson just failed to score. The home team profiting by the escape renewed their attack on Duncan’s goal. He repelled shot after shot, but was latterly beaten by Speirs close in. The visitors were kept defending more or less till halftime, when the score stood – Rangers 1 goal: Airdrieonians 0. Three minutes after the resumption the ‘Onions’ took the game in hand and quite overwhelmed the home defence with the brilliance of their attack. First Thomson scored and then Sinclair had to save from one of his own backs. The Rangers simply could make no progress against Ferguson, McGran and Findlay, and another spell of attacking on the Rangers goal ended in Miller giving his side the lead. The Same player followed with a third goal. Smith was the only home forward, who did well throughout, and he did his best repeatedly single-handed to better his side’s prospects, but he was not supported. Result – Airdrieonians 3 goals: Rangers 1 goal. Gate money £205; stand £30
