Rangers brought their League fixtures to a close on Saturday, when they met Airdrieonians on Ibrox Park before about 6000 spectators. Starting against a slight breeze Airdrie at once tried to break through, but N Smith easily drove them back, and by superior play Rangers kept up the attack for most of the first half. Donnachie scoring the first point after two disallowed goal had been netted. Airdrie towards the interval made desperate efforts to equalise but could not get through the Rangers defence, and before crossing over Chalk added a second. On resuming the visitors aided by a freshened breeze made things lively for their opponents, but at close quarters they lacked finish, and several good chances were thus lost. Towards the finish the Rangers had matters pretty much their own way and in rapid succession Mackie and Stark beat Duncan. Airdrionians retailed gamely but a minute from time Rangers again worked their way up, and Mackie scored a fifth. Result – Rangers 5: Airdrionians 0. The gate amounted to £122 and £31 were taken at the stands.
