Match Trivia
A mixture of the best and the moderate was the game at Ibrox. Man for man, Rangers were greatly superior. Aberdeen, however, were strongest just where it was necessary to be strong in order to prevent that superiority of the ‘Light Blues’ being translated into goals. In the first half Rangers’ ‘near things’ were as common as mud, But their one success was a goal beautifully shot by Gordon, who took a draughtsman’s pass from Bell, and went ahead to smash the ball past Anderson, who saw it coming, but the pace beat him. Calder and Moir were here caught napping, and the lesson was not lost on them. It was largely the tactical defence of them and ‘Thomson’, backed by grand goalkeeping by Anderson that denied the Rangers further reward. A ragged second half saw the Aberdeen forwards more prominent, but the Rangers, who still dominated, suffered from the wrong kind of luck. Still the Aberdeen defence has to be given a pat on the back. Blair, Manderson, Bowie and Martin gave the Rangers’ rearward play some tone. The forwards were moving nicely in the first half, but they were not finishing as they should. The best of the Aberdeen team was the defence, though the forwards improved as the game went on
