Match Trivia

The conditions at Ibrox were ideal when these two clubs met in the League competition before 8000 spectators. The heat was intense when H Low started for Aberdeen, who lost the toss. Aberdeen opened well, but Rangers were first to become dangerous and after Mutch had saved several warm shots, he was beaten after fifteen minutes play by Kyle, who scored close in. Fine work by Smith and Kyle ended in the former putting his team further ahead with a rare angular shot. Aberdeen attacked severely after this and were granted a penalty, but Newbigging saved marvellously with his one hand. The Northerners were soon back, and Lennie with a capital effort reduced the leeway, the ball hitting the inside of the post in its transit into the net. Halftime – Rangers 2: Aberdeen 1. Rangers restarted in brilliant style and Stark almost scored for them, Mutch having run out of his goal. Aberdeen retaliated, and they too almost equalised, Lennie have a grand shot, which hit the outside of the net. A corner to Rangers enabled Stark to head through a third goal. Through weakness on the part of the Aberdeen custodian, Rankine was allowed to add a fourth point. Soon after Spiers put on a fifth goal. Each side scored another point, Rangers in the end winning by 6 to 2
