It was galling to Raith Rovers to go under at Stark’s Park by 3 goals 0 before 20,000 people – most of them their own people. As a matter of fact ‘the Fifers’ had the better of the play. Luck favoured the Rangers in the opening stages. The half was barely mid-way through when Henderson pushed ahead to notch an easy goal, and another following two minutes later. With Steel from home, Archibald dropped the ball nicely under the bar. Before the half-hour was clocked the ‘Light Blues’ were three up, and again Henderson was the successful marksman. Like the others, the point was of the soft order – each counter was the result of a break away. A trio behind, the Rovers embarked on the second half determined to wipe out the arrears, but Dame Fortune was dead against them. Shots of every description from half-backs and forwards were rained in on Robb, who was a truly great custodian. Time and again Willie took the Ibrox side out of a tight corner, and Manderson and McCandless were tested to some tune. Robb was really the Rangers’ salvation. Alan Morton scintillated in the first half, but slackened later
