Match Trivia
I was pleased with Raith Rovers’ display against Rangers although they did fail to win. Rangers owe their victory to Reid, the opportunist. He snapped two goals for his side, each scored at periods when the home team looked like having the mastery. The first followed a delightful run by Cairns and Paterson, and the second was from an individual dash half the length of the field after the Rovers had been doing a bit of pressure. Turner’s goal for the Rovers was the outcome of clever work by Wilson, who dodged Bowie and Manderson and crossed to the centre. In the second period Rovers had more of the play than Rangers, Patterson being seldom tested. Hendry scored this half, kicking the ball with tremendous force from almost thirty yards out. Patterson had absolutely no chance to save. In all fairness to the Rovers it must be said that Wilson, their smartness forward, was of little assistance to them in the second half, being very lame. Rangers held the advantage forward. Cairns and Paterson gave McKerley and Inglis a warm afternoon. Hutchison and Turner were the Rovers’ best forwards. Hendry and Bowie showed excellent play. Foster was the Rovers best half. I have seen Porter keep a firmer grip on Reid. Lavery was easily the best back on view. Manderson and Muir were rot over confident. Hempsey saved daringly on several occasions
