Match Trivia

This closing League game at Hampden Park last night was a thoroughly enjoyable affair. On the run of the game in the first half Rangers should have won, but they ran up against a great custodian in Smith. His was as fine an exhibition as I have seen this season, and he had in front of him two grand full backs whose pay throughout was clever and resourceful. The Ibrox forwards introduced more variety into their play than the Queen’s, but when they got to goal, they bunched too much and fell easy prey to the Queen’s defence. Craig, McDonald and Simpson were in grand form and were exceptionally deadly in their shooting. Simpson was always a source of danger at corner kicks. Queen’s Park played a plucky game which did them credit, and they had in Bremner the finest forward on view. This lad opened out the play well and covered a lot of ground. Martin was the only other Queen’s forward that mattered. The Amateurs opened the scoring in 34 minutes, Dodds heading home a free kick taken by Gardiner, and this the score stood at the interval. Even play was the order of things for 20 minutes of the second half. Then a pretty bit of football led up to Smith equalising with a left foot shot from eight yards range. Neither sis could claim supremacy in the later stages of the game which was scrappy with the defences always on top
