Match Trivia

The Glasgow League fixture between these teams was played last night on Hampden Park, and attracted 6000 spectators. The ground was in capital order. The Queen’s won the toss, and were first down, Dickie having to fist out a stiff shot from McColl. Play at the outset ruled fast, and Lambie was conspicuous for a run the whole length of the field, the ball however going past. The Rangers defence were kept rather busy, and repeatedly had to turn Berry and Lambie when near goal. Rangers however were the first to score, Miller putting the ball into the net. D Berry followed a few minutes afterwards with the equaliser, and this had the effect of improving the play. In less than a minute after this goal Hamilton, from a nice pass by McPherson added a second point for his team. The Rangers forwards showed pretty combination, and from a combined rush by the forwards Hamilton added a third. Close on halftime Hamilton again scored, the whistle sounding with the Rangers leading by 4 goals to 1. On resuming the Rangers were the first to show to advantage, McPherson sending in a shot, which Anderson caught in his hands rather cleverly. Fouls were given against both teams, but none proved successful. The Queen’s were playing much better against the wind, and they gave Smith and Crawford plenty of work to do. Their defence however was playing very weakly, miskicking and returning poorly. McColl and Wilson on two separate occasions got nicely away, but unfortunately they hung too long on the ball, and lost tow goods chances. RA Lambie got the next chance, and playing very nicely he scored the Queen’s second goal. Some exciting play in front of Dickie ensued, and the ball on several occasions seemed all but through. The closing stages of the game were very even, and there was no further scoring, the game ending in a victory for the Rangers by 4 goals to 2. The Rangers throughout were very steady, their best players being Dickie, Neil, Low, McPherson and Hamilton. The Queen’s forwards on the other hand, were badly supported by their defence, who never properly settled down. In the home team, Berry, Lambie and Christie played well.
