Match Trivia

Funny game this. Queen’s Park two goals up after 14 minutes, lead held until half way, and then the transformation. Rangers were level five minutes after the turn, leading in 23 minutes, and had the points in their pocket from then on. First half, the breaks went against the winners, afterwards they were no friends of the amateurs. Take the goals and you’ll see. First for Queen’s in about one minute. Wright placed a corner, Dawson put his hands up, and took the ball safely. He had to got off his feet in the spring and when he landed, he was off balance, wriggled, lost hold of the ball and there it lay in the net. Second Queen’s goal, 13 minutes later, a trim affair. Aitken and Browning just outplayed the Rangers’ defence and left the ball on for Kyle who let fly into the net. Then hot on the trail of goals went Rangers, found the breaks and a stubborn defence beating them, and saw nothing doing. But it was nit a snappy, get-there Rangers until they turned, and then McPherson and Forshaw, and Little on the other wing staged the winning act. But here was where the breaks went against Queen’s. Three minutes, a shot from Smith was deflected into the net off Dickson. Two minutes more a Little shot deflected off Thomson past Brown, who had no earthly chance with either. But they were shots with a punch in them, and so was the one from Venters, after 23 minutes, which won the match. Now Rangers had snap, purpose, method. They were in command, and no doubt the merit of their win. Queen’s faded out as an attacking force. So, Rangers will, no doubt, forget their two penalty claims, and Queen’s their one. An interesting match to watch, and certainly creditable to the young Rangers’ reserves
