Match Trivia
These teams met at Preston yesterday in the presence of three thousand spectators. Owing to the rapid thaw the ground was very slippery. The North End led off, and caused McIntyre and Warburton to exhibit some smart play to keep them in check. After Chalmers had saved a difficult shot off Thomson the Glasgow players by fine passing, got into the North End quarters, and Wharton fisted out a clever shot of Buchanan from under the bar. They were eventually driven back, and Chalmers in his most brilliant manner possible saved a trio of hot shots in rapid succession. The attack on his charge however was too cleverly planned to be long withstood, and Goodall with a low fast shot drew first blood. This player again beat the Rangers custodian with a beautiful shot, Continuing to have the best of the play, Goodall completely ran round Gow, and from his centre Ross junior, scored. The North Enders followed up this success by yet another, Drummond putting in such a shot that McCartney put it through his own goal. Crossing over the Rangers was four goals to the bed. On resuming the North End, although playing uphill and against the wind, once more commenced the attack, and a brilliant dodging run by Goodall enabled Drummond to put on the fifth goal. With a tinge of sarcasm about it North End put Wharton full back and Ross in goal. Notwithstanding this the North End continued to have the upper hand although McCartney, McIntyre and Cameron defended in gallant style. The dodging and passing of the North End forwards was too much for the Rangers. Ross juniors, finished up a grand run by again defeating Chalmers, Goodall following immediately after with a sixth. Peacock and Fraser who were by far the best Rangers forwards, put on several spurts, and they were at length rewarded with a goal a long shot by the former beating Ross. However, North End replied with two more from Ross junior, and Goodall and won a grand game by eight to one
