Match Trivia

This match was played at Pollock Park in presence of a rather limited number of spectators, and ended in a win for the Rangers by seven goals to one. The home team kicked off, and from the start some very fine play was shown. The Rangers shortly had a run up the right wing, but shot the ball behind. Some passing ensured, but the ball was eventually again sent behind. The first goal was scored for the Rangers by Wyllie in a very smart manner, and shortly after a free kick was obtained owing to Wilson, of the home team fouling the ball. The leather was well placed, and a second goal ensured. The Athletics now paid a visit to the Rangers end, but owing to the capital play of Nicol, the Rangers custodian, they were not able to score. D Gow cleared with a fine kick, and shortly after McKenzie notched a third point, and five minute later a fourth was made for the Rangers. No further scoring took place in this half, and when the teams crossed over the Rangers were leading by four goals to none. On resuming the game the Athletics pressed, but could not score. The Rangers soon obtained the upper hand, and in a short time added another point to the score, this time from J Gow’s toe. Sellar of the Pollockshields on getting the ball managed to score the first and only goal for his side. Soon the Rangers succeeded in adding a sixth and then a seventh goal, both from the foot of Wyllie. The whistle blew shortly afterwards leaving the teams to retire with seven and one goals respectively to their credit
