Match Trivia
This Glasgow League match was played at Patrick before 9000 spectators. The Thistle started in promising style, Sommen putting in some forcing play, and the Rangers backs were given a lively time. May responded to a centre by Ferguson, and this let the Ibrox men away, Smith shooting just a trifle wide. Walker brought up Kyle in fine style, and the home quintets again making ground, Ferguson swung the ball across, and Sommen scored for the Thistle. At the other end Chapman lost a chance by hesitating, and Kyle twice directed outside. After this there was much give-and-take play there being an entire absence of anything like sustained work. Halftime – Thistle 1: Rangers 0. On restarting the Rangers at once rushed to the attack, and Speedie sent in a good shot, but Howden coned with it. The lay was now much livelier than before, and both goals were threatened in turn. During one of these incursions Sommen netted the ball, but the point was disallowed on the plea of offside. The ensuing play was hard and fast, the Rangers trying hard to equalise, but were unsuccessful. Result – Thistle 1: Rangers 0. The gate and stands amounted to £250
