Widows Benefit Match, Although the crowd was sparse at Firhill last night, the widows of D Hislop and J Smith of the old junior Partick Westburn wall receive a fair benefit. £20 in cash was drawn at the gate, and with tickets sold the receipts are expected to total something like £100. Rangers sent up a good team, which included Lock, Galt and Bennett, but perhaps more interest was taken in the show made by the young ones on trial. Connor, the much lauded Perth junior International centre-forward who , it is said has the refusal of half the more important clubs in the country, did not impress at inside-right. Riddell of Ashfield, however, showed much ability at centre-half, and Risk of the same club did fairly well on the extreme left. Partick’s recruits in front, whose names were not divulged, all comported themselves in creditable fashion, the outside left-winger, who hails from the Whiteinch Parkvale, particular so. Steel and Gardiner made up a good right wing. Allan and Davidson were the most useful intermediate players, and Bulloch was the best back afield. His partner shaped not at all badly, and Houston kept quite a good goal, as also did Lock for the Rangers. Law was easily the superior Rangers’ back, as of course Galt was the main man in the middle line. All three goals were scored in the second half. And it was perhaps appropriate that the headiest forward afield – Reid and Bennett – should count of Rangers. Davidson got Partick’s point with a fine long ball
