Match Trivia

Hamilton started the game for the Rangers, and A Smith made some headway until relieved of the ball by Lamont. The Thistle got away, and Gray shot wide. A minute later the ball was sent in from the right, but Lamb could not get upon time, and the effort went for nothing. The game was being well contested, neither team being able to claim ant distinct advantage. At this time Lamont, one of the Thistle half’s retired owing to an injury. Both teams worked hard for the first goal. A well-combined run at length brought about the desired result, as Miller opened the scoring for the Rangers twenty minutes from the start amid cheers. Wilson latterly relieved, and after a smart passing run a corner fell to the home team. Gibson averted danger, but his forwards had not travelled far when Currie relieved them of the ball, and placing nicely, Lawson gave Dickie a keen shot to save. Halftime result – Rangers 1: Partick Thistle 0. The Thistle resumed minus Lawson. The Rangers now came away at a terrific pace, and without stopping Miller shot into Spence’s hands: the latter however, could not hold, and the ball found the net. The Thistle were now having more than their fair share of defensive work, and after several shots had been sent in and repelled, Miller put on a third goal for the Rangers. Again Spence was surrounded, and after some smart and really clever play, Miller was again instrumental in scoring. Latterly the home front t line broke through, and Lamb forced N Smith to concede a corner. On being pressed Wilson fisted out from below the bar, and from the resulted penalty Hyslop notched a fifth point for the Rangers. The remainder of the game was all in favour of the Rangers, Hyslop again scoring. Result – Rangers 6: Partick Thistle 0.
