One may, I suppose congratulate Partick Thistle and condole with Rangers without being inconsistent. The Thistle, with Gibson at right back, but otherwise well armoured for the fray, got Rangers in worse difficulties than ever. It was a chance, and the Thistle took it. Early in the game, Cunningham missed the ball altogether and wrenched the large muscle above the left knee. From that point he was quite useless, and I think would have been much better to have gone off. Morton, getting a try-out, was unable to let himself goa and so for most of the game the Ibrox front line was merely a collection of units striving to be compact. The Thistle once they realised their opportunity, made the pace a cracker, and although it was not until early in the second half that Miller opened the scoring, they were always going full steam for a victory which, on the play they of course deserved. Miller got the second goal also, both excellent efforts, and the climax to some hard, relentless pressure, against which the young Rangers’ defenders put up a heroic resistance. Robb, in the second half, made some really grand saves, and Gray’s recovery was very good. Both Kirkwood and Hodge came out of a testing ordeal with great credit, and Dixon was a tremendous worker. All round the Thistle played well. The defence gave absolutely nothing away, and all the half-backs made the most of their simplified task. Ness and Kinloch were a fast, clever wing – the bets on the field. There was no failure. Miller, in the second half spread the play nicely, and he was shooting like a gatling gun. So was Ness when he got the opportunity
