Match Trivia

The visit of the Scottish League champion attracted a large crowd to Cattofield yesterday. The Rangers won the toss, an Orion kicked off up the hill. The Light Blues immediately got down, but the ball went out of play. A run up by the Orion looked dangerous. The ball however went over. Immediately afterwards Low sent over a beauty from the right wing, which Dickie just managed to clear at the expense of a corner. From a well-judged pass across to Smith by Hamilton, the former player made no mistake with his parting shot. The Rangers continued to have most of the play, but poor shooting robbed them of several likely goals. Some fine play was shown by the Orion forwards, but they seldom got past Dickie and Drummond. Once more the Rangers got into close quarters, and Miller neat Morrison with a swift shot. Play continued to rule chiefly in the home territory and Morrison was kept very busy. Orion now took the running, and Dickie was compelled to use his hands. From a corner, McKay soon scored for Orion, at the goalmouth. The homesters now played with more vigour, and Smith and Drummond had to be continually on the alert. Halftime arrived with the scores – Rangers 2 goals: Orion 1 goal. On resuming, Orion having now the hill in their favour, played with more dash, and kept the Rangers defence busy. Once more the Light Blues got possession of the ball, and Gibson beat Morrison with a somewhat soft hot. Shortly afterwards Hamilton got past the Orion defence, and added another point. End to end play followed, both sides having an equal share of the play. The Orion kept u the pressure, and Dickie charge had several narrow escapes. The Light Blues once more took up the running, but they failed to add to their score. No further scoring took place, and the game ended – Rangers 4 goals: Orion 1 goal.
