The Rangers team in view of the forth coming cup tie, were not inclined to exert themselves too much yesterday when they met Newcastle United at St James’s Park in the first of the home-and-home fixtures. Both sides were well represented, and 5000 spectators watched the play. The visitors after bright opening slackened down, and Higgins scored twice for Newcastle before the interval. Rennie’s goal having many narrow escapes. Play was even in the second half. Before the finish Pudan turned the ball through his own goal, and then Higgins scored other two goals for his side
