Match Trivia
About 300 people put in an appearance at St James’s Park, Newcastle to witness this fixture. The weather was ,wild, and the game a regular holiday affair. The Newcastle team open well, and Nible, formerly of Linthouse, opened the score after ten minutes play. Even play rules, the game being fairly fast, and the Rangers right wing being prominent. McFarlane shot a second goal with a high shot six minutes later. Then Laidlaw the ex-Leith forward got through and scored rather easily. At haft-time Newcastle led by 3 goals to 0. The Rangers did not play up to their reputation in the first part of the game, their display being very lame one. Play heightened somewhat latterly, the Rangers combining much better with the wind to assist them. Peddie got a fourth goal five minutes of the start of the second period, and after fifteen minutes Speedie got a goal for the visitors. The Glasgow team made strenuous efforts to better their position, and had distinctly the best of the closing play, but they were met by a strong defence, which held out to the end.
