Match Trivia
Played on Fir Park, Motherwell before fully 5000 spectators. The pitch was covered with about an inch of snow, and play was not long started until it was apparent that the footing was not good, as the players slipped very badly, and made accurate play impossible. In the earlier part of the game Motherwell played a surprising game under the circumstances, and were frequently around Sinclair’s charge. Haxton had several good tries, and on one occasion Burton gave Sinclair a hot shot to hold, and it was evident he was in the net when he saved. The referee however did not allow the point, although it was claimed by Motherwell. Occasionally the visitors paid a visit to the Motherwell end, but when halftime was called neither side had scored. Halftime – No goals. On resuming the Rangers took up the running, and McLean practically gifted them their first goal, Smith sent in a shot which Dickson could have saved, but McLean in trying to clear sent the ball through his own net, and Dickson had no chance to keep out. The visitors were playing a much smarter game this half than in the opening portion, and Hamilton from good centre by Speedie, got an easy goal. The Rangers continued to have the best of the play till the finish, and won by two goals to nil. The drawings at gate and stand amounted to £145
