Match Trivia
Played on Fir Park, Motherwell on Saturday before an attendance of fully 6000 spectators, the weather was fine. Motherwell could only get out a scratch team, Dickson, sharp, Hamilton and Baird (Heart of Midlothian) all being in the advertise team, but unable to appear through injuries and other cadies and from the first it was not expected the Fir Parkers would have much of a chance. The home team had to start with a bright sun in their eyes, and the opening efforts were chiefly at Motherwell goal. After 15 minutes play Hamilton opened the scoring with a lightening shot, which Adams was powerless to save. The Motherwell forwards got occasionally down to Dickie’s end, but they were easily disposed of by the Rangers defence. Hamilton again did the needful and followed up with a third. Near halftime Menzies got a goal for the homesters. Halftime score – Rangers 3 goals: Motherwell 1 goal. The second half was perhaps the most interesting part of the game, the homesters putting in some plucky work, but the visitors had sized them up by this time and kept the game well in hand. Dickie got one or two hot shots to negotiate, which he always managed to do successfully. Speedie and Hamilton added another two for the Rangers while Motherwell got a second. Dickie saved a penalty kick. The result of the game was never in doubt and the Rangers seemed to have plenty of energy in reserve, which could have been called into play if they had been hard pressed. The game ended – Rangers 5 goals: Motherwell 2. The drawings at the gate amounted to £137, and £12 from the stands
