In weather of a depressing nature these teams brought off the first of their this seasons League engagements at Greenock on Saturday before 7000 spectators. The Rangers started with fine dash, and by good combination they became dangerous and deserved to score. Several times the ball struck the upright and rebounded into play. Russell and Sharp instituted several promising runs for Morton, but Smith and Crawford played a careful defence. From a fine punt by Campbell, Oswald headed through the first goal for Morton, but before the interval McPherson put the teams on an equal footing. Half-time Morton 1; Rangers 1. On the resumption the Morton forwards were early prominent, and in the midst of a vigorous attack Pearson was brought down within the twelve yards line by Neil, the resulting penalty being converted by Sharp. Morton did not long hold the lead, for McPherson within a few minutes had beaten his namesake on the post. The best part of the match was at this point, both teams battling gamely for the lead. Throughout the game Rangers had been slightly the better lot, but Morton deserve praise for making a plucky fight, and showing a thoroughly sound defence. Just before the call of time Wilkie scored from a corner, and won the game for his side. Result Rangers 3 goals; Morton 2 goals
