Rangers and Morton both exhibited much keenness in the Greenock Infirmary benefit match at Cappielow, although most of the aggressive work was done by the locals. They kept the Ibrox team confined largely to their own territory, but could make little or nothing of Manderson and Blair. Lock’s Partick Thistle deputy also showed dexterity and coolness. Time and again the Ibrox forwards broke away on the left, and occasionally ‘Duncan’ brought them on terms with Bradford, but they lacked the ability to turn their opportunities to account. Indeed, compared with Bruce, John had an easy time.
