Match Trivia
This tie on Saturday attracted by far the biggest attendance of the season at Greenock over 9000 spectators being present. The weather was cold, and there were frequent showers of snow. Rangers started in great style and for a time play was all in the vicinity of the Morton goal, which narrowly escaped on several occasions. Morton broke away and almost scored, Sinclair bringing off a remarkable save. The visitors soon after again became aggressive, and at the end of 30 minutes McColl cleverly tricking Robertson easily netted the ball. A few minutes later Speedie added a second goal, while just before the interval Kyle also got through. At the beginning of the second portion Morton played up plucky and with better judgment they must have scored. Rangers afterwards again got going, and Speedie increased their lead from a penalty. Nor were they yet done, for goals were also put on by McColl and Walker. The visitors thereafter indulged in fancy play till the close. Result – Rangers 6 goals: Morton 0 goals. Drawings £200
