Match Trivia
Ibrox Park being engaged with the Glasgow Cup final, the Rangers agreed to play this return game at Greenock. The weather was retched and the attendance would not exceed 3000. From the kick off Rangers rushed down in brilliant combination, Hamilton finishing the run by beating Sinclair, who got no chance to save. Morton attacked in spirited fashion thereafter, and for a long spell Rangers were on the defensive. Excellent shots were put to Dickie by Eadie, Roberts and Thomson, that keeper saving cleverly. When the Rangers got on the run they were more dangerous shooting from all ranges, but on the whole play was decidedly against them. Just before the interval a weakness in Morton’s defence let Hamilton through, and he scored a second goal. Rangers leading at halftime by 2 goals to 0. For 15 minutes of the second half Morton had the best of the play Roberts dribbling brilliantly, but the old fault of hanging on too long was noticeable among the forwards. Joyce had two spirited runs single-handed, but Smith on each occasion cleverly nipped away the ball at close quarters. Another good piece of combination came from Hamilton, Hartley and Speedie, the last named scoring a splendid goal about 50 yards out. Morton plodded away pluckily showing first class form in midfield, but very mediocre near goal, until about five minutes from the end they appeared to collapse all of a sudden, and Walker scored two more goals. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Morton
