Despite heavy rain, which fell incessantly, Manchester United and Rangers gave a clever display at Old Trafford. Manchester were the more aggressive side and led at the interval by a goal scored by Henderson. The old Airdrieonian met a centre from Ellis with his head, and Robb was beaten. Rangers shaped better in the second half, but they never looked like getting the equaliser until Archibald let go a hard drive. The ball cannoned off Mann and entered the net. Twenty minutes remained, and a very keen wind-up was witnessed by the four thousand onlookers. Five minutes before the end the locals made an unsuccessful claim for a penalty. The footwork of the Scotsmen was delightful to watch. McCandless, Cunningham and Cairns were in great form, while Robb in goal gave a glorious display in the first half, when United forwards kept him continually busy
