Match Trivia
The return match between those teams was played at Langlands Park Govan, before 2000 spectators. The Rangers were without Drummond, A McCreadie and Steel. The inclusion of McPherson and H McCreadie made them nearly as strong as usual. The Linthouse kicked off against a strong breeze. They at once made tracks for Haddow, and J Campbell sent in a smart shot, which nearly took effect. After another visit from Linthouse the Rangers opened up play a bit. Leslie had twice to fist out. A shot from Marshall took effect, however and the Rangers were one up. The Linthouse retaliated and McFarlane and T Campbell put in a fine run. Campbell shot, but the ball went past. A corner for the Linthouse followed, but nothing came of it. From a scrimmage the Rangers scored a second goal, Blyth sending the ball through. Ten minutes later the Rangers scored a third goal from a long shot by Mitchell. Result – Rangers 3 goals: Linthouse 0 goals. In the second half the Linthouse had only ten men, Thorburn having retired hurt in the first half. The ball was sent well up and Haddow kicked out, but the ball struck Campbell and rebounded through the goal, thus registering the Linthouse’s first goal. Elated at their success, the Linthouse strove hard to increase their score, but luck was against them. A splendid shot from Smith struck the crossbar and rebounded into play. From a return by Marshall the Rangers right wing got away. McCreadie centred and an exciting scrimmage took place in front of Leslie’ but the Linthouse custodian was equal to the occasion and cleared his charge. The Linthouse was only ten men, were more than holding their own. They gave the Rangers back division plenty to do. From a free kick J Campbell scored a second goal for the Linthouse. Towards the close the Rangers came away in a body, and after Leslie had cleverly saved a shot from Boyd, Gray beat him, and put on the fourth goal for the visitors. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Linthouse 2 goals.
