Match Trivia

Opening of a new stand - If Rangers, in their meeting with Linfield at Windsor Park, Belfast last evening, did not set the Lagan afire, they did at least serve up a polished exhibition of football, marred only by one failing – wretched shooting. They got through their work in such clean-cut fashion, however, that the opposition looked crude in comparison. Rangers seemed to be playing well within themselves, and it was only in the last quarter of an hour that they acquired a thirst for goals. They left their effort too late, however, and the Belfast team got away with a goalless draw in a game in which a four-goals’ margin would not have flattered Rangers. Simpson was slow, and Archibald was the outstanding player afield. After him came Marshall and Craig. The game, however, was no great test of strength, and was on the whole, disappointing. Newry Bob Hamilton did not exert himself unduly. There was a crowd of 15,000 present, and the receipts were about £600. McPhail was hurt in the second half and changed places with Nicholson
