Match Trivia
Played at Rugby Park in splendid weather, there would be between 7000 and 8000 spectators. Rangers kicked off, the homesters were first to become dangerous, and after five minutes play Graham opened the scoring with a fine overhead kick. This caused both teams to increase their exertions, with the result that the game became intensely interesting and exciting. From goal to goal the ball travelled at a great pace, both custodians having to utilise all their resources to prevent the downfall of their citadels, as the forwards were always alert for opportunities to score. The heads of Anderson and Neil collided when both were endeavouring to head the ball, and the Ranger had to retire with an injury. All through the first half was vigorously contested, bit no further scoring resulted. Halftime result – Kilmarnock 1: Rangers 0. Rangers reappeared with ten men, but opened in determined fashion, playing the utmost of their ability. After five minutes play Speedie scored the equaliser as the outcome of a free kick, which had been repeatedly returned by the home defenders. In this half the light blues played with one back, and the home forwards were in consequence frequently pulled up for offside. The Ibrox men wrought hard and well to secure the winning goal, which was scored by McPherson in a scrimmage ten minutes from the finish. Killie thereafter made a desperate effort, but were unsuccessful, and a good game ended – Rangers 2: Kilmarnock 1.
