Match Trivia
Fully 18,000 spectators were at Easter Road to see the Rangers attempt to win that point which would give them the League championship. Of the 18,000 spectators not, a few came to view the five internationalists who were playing, but they must have gone away disappointed, for Cairns and Morton were completely played out by Kerr and McGinnigle for part of the first half, and for all of the second. Cunningham was up against more than his match in Shaw, and Muirhead had his hands full liking after Ritchie and Dunn. He met with fair success, but he owed a great deal to Jamieson, who, with Robb, was the only real success on the Rangers side. The other ‘capped’ man, Harper, had little to do, but what little was well done. The game was very poor in the first half, and quite unworthy of the clubs, but when Dixon fouled McColl in the box, and Shaw converted a penalty six minutes after resumption of the game, play became very interesting. The Rangers tried hard to get on level terms. Instead, they went nearly further behind, but when Walker struck the underside of the crossbar the ball came out, and after that the Hibs had to defend hard. Manderson missing his kick, McColl made full use of the opening, which was by no means a ‘sitter,’ as thereafter the Hibs were completely outplayed.
