Match Trivia
Great interested attached to this League fixture, which was played at Easter Road Edinburgh on Saturday. A win for either side would have been a distinct effect upon the championship prospects, but as it turned out the game ended in a draw, each side scoring one goal. There was an attendance about 6000 spectators, and the weather conditions were of the best description. The Hibernian kicked off, and very early in the game they took up the rushing method, which characterised the usual form of the Edinburgh Irishmen. Repeatedly Murray (1) tried to pass Drummond with the ball at his foot, but the back was too much for him. Then the right wing continued to do most of the running, the same player changed his tactics, and tried long shooting. This equally proved a failure, and indeed, the play round the goal was very different from that in midfield. The game opened somewhat after a little, and as halftime approached the Rangers were making a very fait attempt to get in at McColl. There was however, a lot of ill-judged play when the opportunity should have been taken, and the whistle was blown without scoring. On restarting one or two good opportunities were lost by the Western men, who were doing a lot of hard pressure. McPherson did one or two brilliant things and twice Barker just missed scoring, the ball in the one case hitting the post and in the other the bar. At last the Hibernian gained the first point with a splendid shot from Murray (1), and this was shortly afterwards equalled by Barker heading through the ball in the midst of a scramble round the Hibernian goal. Towards the finish the Rangers were making a bold attempt to gain the leading point, but without success. The result was thus a draw – one goal each.
