Match Trivia
Willie Dornan Benefit Match, The Christmas Day game at Easter Road was devoted to the benefit of Dornan, the left back, and fully 6000 spectators gave it their patronage. The Hibernians rested McGinnigle, Kerr, Miller, Dunn and Halligan, but reintroduced Ritchie and Dornan, while a trial was given to an inside left and a centre-half. The rangers had Robb in goal; the others being reserves. It was an interesting if never an exciting game, and some clever football was shown, especially by the Rangers, who were much readier shot, and it was this that enabled them to cross over at the interval with a lead of three goals – one got by D Kirkwood and two by Dick. The Hibernians were unlucky in some of their attacks, but mostly they were well held by the Rangers’ defence. In the second half the Hibernian lost Shaw, who got his jaw damaged, but curiously enough they played better when short handed Ritchie, whose leg was standing the strain well, opened their score with a fine goal, and after Dick had got a fourth goal for the Rangers, Ritchie scored for the Hibernian from a penalty
