Match Trivia

When Hibs lost Peter Kerr just on the interval it seemed long odds-on Rangers getting double points. At full strength in the opening period the Easter Road side certainly had more of the play, but they missed a most glaring opening. Archibald’s miss at the other end was not quite so bad, but such an experienced player as the outside right should have made certain of the yard or two of gaping goalmouth which asked him to put the ball in, instead of banging it high over the bar. Prior to this Young had been very restless and required the full attention of the Ibrox full backs, but he made poor attempts to gather probable chances. When Kerr, who had been injured resumed after ten minutes of the second half had gone, he had his left bandaged, and took up the outside right position, with Ritchie at centre forward and Young at right half. This did not look like a side equal to beating Rangers, yet they played surprisingly well. Towards the finish, in fact, they kept up a fusillade which gave the supporters of the Ibrox side considerable anxiety. Ritchie as a centre forward could be given no rope, the burly Hib bustling the Ibrox defence to some tune. With fifteen minutes to go, Hibs met further disaster, Paterson being carried off, and he did not resume. Touches of temper crept into the game, both sides being all out for the points. Though not by any means a pretty game, it was fast, and if anyone enhanced his reputation it was Shaw and McCandless. The Hibs’ left half excelled in spiling touches and gave his forwards many a nice ball. Paterson was all energy and had Henderson in hand all through. It was no day for forward play, the defence not giving the forward opposed to them a chance to settle. Robb had more to do than Harper, but both custodians performed splendidly. Rangers were, in the circumstances, in luck’s way to share the points. The crowd exceeded 20,000. A medical man who examined Kerr stated that the ligaments of his wrist were torn
