Match Trivia
These teams met in the Charity Cup competition at Catkin Park in splendid weather before 10,000 spectators. The Hibs immediately took up the running and after Divers had twice headed over, McGeachan scored, but the point was disallowed. However Atherton shot a splendid goal shortly afterwards, and a free kick against Neil almost led to a second. At the other end Walker headed over, and Smith shot with great force into Rennie, who saved very smartly. The Hibs continued to show the better form, but Drummond and Dickie were very safe. Halftime Hibernian 1 goal: Rangers 0 goals. The Hibs pressed on resuming and Callaghan gave Dickie a fast low shot to stop. The Rangers gradually assumed the upper hand, but found scoring a matter of difficulty. Rennie saved repeatedly, but was beaten by a splendid shot from Walker; the ball struck the port however, and went out of play. Still the Rangers pressed and Mackie struck the crossbar with a grand shot. The Ibrox team was playing up splendidly for the equaliser, but experienced very hard lines. The climax came when Speedie missed scoring from a penalty, and a fast game ended Hibernian 1: Rangers 0. Gate £277; stand £37; total £304. Speedie missed a second half penalty
