Match Trivia
The return fixture took place at Tynecastle Edinburgh in fine weather and before about 6000 spectators. The Rangers kicked off, but after some trouble McNaught relieved, and G Wilson took up the running and passing back to Chapman the centre half drove hard for McGhee being a bit lucky in diverting past, the corner which followed being cleared, the game went on to quiet lines, but a Rangers break away gave some trouble. Ultimately the danger was cleared, and the brothers Wilson by a neat combined run, took the ball to the other end, when the home team scored one of the softest goals seen for a long time. Chapman sent in a long drive, which Craig made no attempt to stop, then Sinclair, who rushed out failed to gather the ball, Reid the Hearts centre, who was following up the ball rushed in and scored. After this the Rangers pressed in determined style, but the Heart of Midlothian defence stood up to their work in grand style, but in a surprise run down by the Rangers, Spiers put the score level. The next minute Reid ought to have given the Heart of Midlothian the lead, but he failed to gather the ball. The Rangers now showed some brilliant passing, but nothing came of it, and halftime arrived with the score one goal each. The second half was resumed with Cooper in centre position for the home team. Each side scored one goal in the second half. Result – A draw two goals each. The drawings amounted to – Gate £143 1s; stands £15.
