Match Trivia
Football, which has been almost a dead letter in the Vale of Leven for a couple of months past, was recruited by the above League fixture. The Vale are not in the beat of form at present. The game showed this very decidedly. The ball was hardly kicked off when the stranger’s left wing ran away with it, and McPherson sending in a soft one, Sharp and Wilson let it pass. Another goal by McCreadie, and a third one by Hislop sustained up the Rangers recording the Vale failing to notch a point in the first half, but by improved play scored a solitary goal in the second half. The play of the light blues was brilliant the forwards showing great dash. Hislop and McCreadie simply ran round the Vale men, while Gow at back proved himself a demon in defence. Reid at goal was not called on to show great defence, but when required he was quite equal to the occasion. Among the Vale, Whitelaw was the only sure man. Wilson at goal still suffers from injury to his ribs sustained at Sunderland, and was not at all in international form. Bruce played steadily, but Graham was erratic, and Mills on the left wing – who by the way is a Jamestown player – was rather light. The game ended Rangers 3: Vale 1.
