Match Trivia
The Hearts were much the better side in what was a thrilling game, and a division of the points fails to reflect the run of the play. The Rangers were on the stretch all the time, and while the goal they scored was the better one, they were decidedly lucky in preventing the Hearts from counting more than once. The home team gave a fine display of fast open footwork, and a feature of their game was the manner in which the reserves combined with the regular members of the team. R Currie, D Currie and Briggs were always prominent, more especially the first named, who, at outside left, showed a fine turn of speed, while he repeatedly centred with deadly accuracy. Individually the Rangers’ young forwards were clever, but there was little or no combination, and there was want of steadying influence in all their movements. Quite the best effort of the match came from Parker, who in a marvellous manner, unexpectedly hooked a ball into goal for Allan to bring off a fine save. There was little else, however, in their play. Logan of the half-back, played a good spoiling game. Hendry was decidedly weak, while Galt had no time to attend to anyone else but R Currie. The backs stuck at nothing to keep their lines intact, and their success is seen in the score.
