Match Trivia

Rangers were a lucky lot to get a point away from Tynecastle, where 20,000 spectators looked on at one of the brightest games seen in Edinburgh this season. For a solid half-hour after the interval the Hearts confined the Ibrox men to their own goal area. Corner after corner was forced. Good shots were sent in by Sinclair, Lochhead, and Davies, but Lock defied all attempts to beat him. One ball did reach the net, but Lochhead placed it there from an offside position. Reid made an attempt to break through near the finish, only to find Birrell too smart for him. Apart from this, Rangers were never dangerous this half. In the earlier part of the game play ran on level lines. Rangers recovered well after a shaky start, and Cairns made a couple of good attempts to beat Kane. Every man on the Hearts’ side was good, and none better than the more recent recruits, Davies gave a polished exhibition of inside forward play that was unequalled by any other man on the field. Cameron, too, made a splendid show at half-back, but for that matter of it all the middle men were at the top of their form. Birrell caught the eye in a thoroughly sound defence. Gordon, Bowie and Dixon were missed from the Rangers’ side. Cairns and Muirhead were the only forwards who showed to advantage. Walls gave best service at half-back, but the man who counted for most was Lock, who put in a splendid afternoon’s work
