Match Trivia

At Tynecastle, Edinburgh under Inter-City League auspice, the weather was dull and a high wind blew across the field. There was an attendance of about 9000 spectators. The Hearts against the wind opened strongly and Bell had the first try, which went over. Rangers next pressed, and a shot from Mackie met with the same fate. The Hearts fairly kept the Cup finalists travelling and had easily the best of matters. Smith and Fraser having an anxious time of it in holding the lively ‘Maroons’ in check. In the midst of a scrimmage in front of the Rangers goal D Wilson was floored and a penalty kick awarded. Thomson took the kick and after a second attempt score for the Hearts. Close to the interval Mackie broke through but finished somewhat weakly. Halftime – Heart of Midlothian 1 goal: Rangers 0. The second half was practically as reparation of the first Hearts doing by far the greater part of the aggressive work, but no further scoring took place, and the game ended – Result – Heart of Midlothian 1 goal: Rangers 0. The drawings amounted to £140 11s. stands £13 2s, total £153 13s
