Match Trivia
North American Tour - Before a crowd of seventy-five hundred people a record attendance for a soccer game in the history of Hamilton. Glasgow Rangers justly styled the ‘wonder team’, defeated Hamilton Thistle by a score of three goals to nothing. Rangers were always masters of the situation and were never seriously extended. Thistles played good football minus the punch while Rangers, for the most part, contented themselves with a display of glorious movements that thrilled the crowd. Rangers had much more speed and finish than had the local team. ‘White’ McDonald, a former Hamilton boy, captained the Rangers and his brother ‘Red’ captained the Thistles. Fleming, of Rangers, was injured in the first half and was off the field for a time but came back to score two goals, Nicholson scoring the other, all in the first half. There was no scoring in the second period
Ten thousand spectators saw a fast, entertaining game between the Rangers and Hamilton Thistle, here yesterday. The home team were quite a clever, well-combined side, and although Rangers were always superior in team play, Thistle defence resisted so well that goals were difficult to get. Wallace made some splendid saves in the Thistle goal, and both Lodge and Dunlop tackled well. A brother of the Rangers McDonald played at outside left for the Thistle and showed some clever touches. Fleming was in great shooting form and got other two goals, making his total six for the tour so far. He is agreeing with the Canadian air. Nicholson scored the other goal with a characteristic effort. His footwork was greatly admired, as was his combination with Muirhead. Rangers, I should say, gave their best exhibition up till now
