John Hamilton

Johnny Hamilton (1973 to 1978)

Signing from Hibernian in 1973, the former Benburb Juniors player established himself as a first team regular at Ibrox during season 1975/76 as Rangers won the domestic treble under Jock Wallace.

A talented right sided midfielder with a good range of passing, ‘Dingy’ went on to make 78 first team appearances scoring 9 goals for his boyhood heroes. The arrival of Bobby Russell in the summer of 1977 somewhat limited Johnny’s opportunities as Wallace built yet another treble winning side.

Johnny won the full set of domestic honours during his time at Ibrox and was a popular figure with players and fans alike.

After a period of illness, Johnny died on 17th October 2015 at the age of 66.
