Match Trivia
These teams put off their Glasgow Cup tie, but played a friendly game on Breahead Park. Thistle kicked off, and in a few minutes were surrounding Haddow’s charge, and in less then five minutes Allan scored. The footing was very unsafe, and falls were frequent, but the close passing of both teams was admirable. Kerr worked with a will for the Rangers, and put in some grand work on the right, McCracken bringing him up at dangerous times. The Thistle kept up the pace at a rattling rate, the front rank working well together. From a miss-kick by Barker, Herd sent the ball down to Allan, who passed to Johnstone. Running down the left he passed smartly to Gemmell, who sent in a swift low shot, which beat Haddow. The Rangers seemed more determined from this reverse, and came away in brilliant form. From a fine run by Kerr and H McCreadie, the latter wound up by scoring. Give and take play ensued, and although both goals were visited in turn no further scoring took place. Halftime result – Thistle 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. The second half opened briskly. A loose bit of play on the part of the Rangers backs let in the Thistle left wing, and a piece of smart dribbling was capped by a goal, taken by McPherson. After about twenty minutes of the second half had gone, Kerr had a splendid run, which he ended by a neat centre, which Herd blocked. Before he could get the ball away, however, the whole front line of the Rangers were up, and from a scrimmage in front of goal Clark scored. The Rangers were unable to put on the odd point, and the game ended – Thistle 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals.
