Match Trivia
Fine weather favoured the visit of the First Leaguers to the Borders, where they played Gala Fairydean last night in a friendly game at Mossilee. The Rangers attacked first, but the home team put up a good defence. The Rangers eventually found an opening, Hendry beating Donald with a bouncing ball. Play was evenly contested till the interval, which arrived without further scoring. Five minutes further play sufficed to allow Scott Duncan to increase the Rangers lead. Bennett next had a scamper, and after beating the backs, found Donald a stumbling block. A corner followed, and a scrimmage in front of the home goal enabled Stewart to net the ball. The Rangers showed clever passing but their long shots were rather erratic. Stewart eventually found another opening from close rangers, and put the visitors four up. The Fairies next had a look in, and seemed as if they would reduce the lead against them, but Bennett again carried hostilities to the home goal, and enabled Stewart to complete his ‘hat-trick’. Bennett and Stewart scored again before the finish. Result :- Rangers 7 goals; Gala Fairydean 0
