Match Trivia
There was a very good crowd on the Fulham ground yesterday morning, when the above teams played a friendly match. The game calls for no particular comment, the play throughout being of a fairly even description, and the result - one goal to love in favour of the visitors – about describes the game. The Rangers opened a strong attack and Crossthwaite was very early called upon; the shot by Speirs, however, was a slow one, and the home custodian easily saved it. On the whole the Rangers showed to most advantage, but although Bovill and Hamilton both put in some good runs the home backs were smart and cleared. From a breakaway on the right play was transferred to the Rangers’ half. McCourt sent across and Lee had a fine chance; he was slow, however, and his shot was a weak one. Fulham again pressed, but the Rangers getting better together, had more of the game. Bovill got away, sending across to Smith, and the last-named, returning the ball Hamilton shot in and scored for the visitors, who thus led at half-time by one goal to love. Resuming, Fulham did well on the left wing, Hubbard and Lee putting in some fine runs. On the visitors’ side Speirs was prominent, but no distinct advantage was gained by either team. Towards the close Fulham became very aggressive, but although both sides tried their best no further score was made and victory rested with the Rangers by one goal to love.
